Second Grader 31:365:2011

This happy little photo was taken by a 2nd grader today in the library. The students had been using iPod Touches to videotape their partners reading a Dr. Seuss book. After this girl and her partner finished their videos, they took pictures of each other, and we showed the class how to Bump photos.

I am featuring photos by students for Photo Friday, but I just love this one so much and couldn't wait!

Readers Theater 29:365:2011

Ms. Swanson's second grade class is using an iPod Touch to record a Readers' Theater about a grouchy groundhog. The DailyShoot assignment for today was to capture Communication.

A Comic Life Thank You 27:365:2011

This afternoon, we had a super visit with our OETT grant foundation donors. They visited six of our classrooms in which students were using the iPod Touches for learning. I made this souvenir for the foundation folks using Comic Life and pictures of our students using the new technology. This was my first real Comic Life project. I'm sold!

Devon Tower 26:365:2011

Dinner in Bricktown with my husband again and took my good camera this time. Through the alley behind Spaghetti Warehouse, you can see the new Devon Tower under construction. When completed, it will be about 3 times as tall as the next tallest building in downtown Oklahoma City. It will definitely change the skyline!

Happy Hour 25:365:2011

Fountain drinks are the attraction at Sonic, especially during Happy Hour!
I drove to Sonic for lunch today and while I was waiting, thought of the DailyShoot assignment for today: Attraction. Sonic's Happy Hour caught my eye. That's definitely an attraction. Get your drinks for half price between 2 and 4 p.m. I took this picture with the iPod Touch 4, since it was handy.

Geometric Shadows 24:365:2011

I took this picture with my iPod Touch on the way to my dentist appointment a couple of weeks ago. I love the way the shadows fell on the entrance to a medical building. It was late afternoon, and I think I'll return with my good camera to get pictures with more detail. The Dailyshoot assignment for today was hard shadows. By the way, I have figured out how to enlarge the photo in BlogPress. Increase the height or width of the image thumbnail and leave Proportions ON. Hallelujah!

Scrollwork 23:365:2011

I had never really noticed the beautiful scrollwork on my mother- and father-in-law's antique mirror base. I wonder if there was originally a medallion of some sort that attached to the center of the round disk between the leaf carvings. I will have to ask and find out. Today's Dailyshoot assignment was to capture something beautiful. I think I did.

Trying Out the BlogPress App on my iPad

I'm seeing how it works to post a blog entry with photo for my 365 Project using BlogPress. Many times it's easier for me to get to my iPad than my computer. This photo was taken with an ipod Touch by one of my teachers or students. I don't know which. I just found it on the camera roll of one of the devices while I was syncing. I really liked it, so I Bumped it to my iPad and then edited it in SketchMee.

Brioche Knitting 22:365:2011

Brioche Knitting
The Dailyshoot assignment for today was to feature stripes in some way. I thought of my daughter's recent attempt at the brioche knitting pattern. She made this swatch to see how it worked. The pattern makes ribbed stripes but involves knitting each row two times, once in each color. She decided that was a bit too labor-intensive for her right now. I taught her how to knit one year ago, and she has far surpassed me, knitting cables, lace and brocade patterns. Her current project is a sweater (for herself) from the Vogue Knitting magazine.

I took this photo with my iPod Touch because it was handy. The background is my white kitchen counter.

Photo Friday: Fluency 21:365:2011

Recording...
Listening and Checking
Ms. Paradise's 3rd graders used iPod Touches today to make recordings on Voice Memo. Working in pairs, they recorded themselves reading sight words, then switched iPod Touches to listen to the other's recording and check for fluency and accuracy. The teacher Bumped these photos to me from one of the Touches.

Yesterday was a snow day, and all 80 of our iPod Touches were in use today!

Tree Roots 19:365:2011

I took this photo out on the early childhood playground this afternoon. With so many children playing under this tree, grass doesn't stand a chance. Kids love to play and poke about in the dirt!

Healing Powers? 18:365:2011

Add caption
On the way to my dentist appointment last week, I took this shot. It's the atrium of the Neuroscience Building in the Mercy Hospital Complex. It always makes me wonder about the healing powers of pyramids. The Dailyshoot task for Tuesday, Jan. 18, was a triangular composition.

Blue Shirts 16:365:2011

My father-in-law prefers blue shirts, apparently. I stealthily took this picture with my iPod Touch during our Sunday visit and then tweaked it a little with the Instagram app to boost the blue color. The Dailyshoot assignment for today was the color blue.

Smiles 15:365:2011

These two kindergarten girls came to the library to pick up iPod Touches for their class to use at centers in the afternoon. How lucky am I that I get to see such sweet smiling faces every day at school!

I took this picture with the iPod Touch and used one of the Instagram filters for the color boost effect. The Dailyshoot assignment for today was to take a picture of two complementary things. Close enough!

Photo Friday 14:365:2011

Today is my first Photo Friday, when I invite teachers and students to take pictures on the iPod Touch and bump them to me. Our 5th grade math teacher Mrs. Neal took this pic of a boy using the app Long Division. I love the bright colors in this photo and the student's total concentration. Oh, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book on the table!

Library Keys 13:365:2011

My library keys, with my Westminster Abbey keyring
from a London trip with my daughter.
So that I won't lose my keys, I have a keyring, as well as a stretchy thing to put around my wrist. I also put a long zip-tie on my keys so that I can find them easily in my purse. That zip-tie looks mighty strange it's a great help. A press-on jewel helps me find the main key without looking. Note:  I took this picture with a Smart Document Camera in the library.

Ripples 10:365:2011

This is the wonderful new ripple crochet afghan that my daughter made for us. I think the pattern shows rhythm, which was the DailyShoot task for Jan. 10, which is also my daughter's birthday!

Let's Go Thunder! 9:365:2011

A couple of days late, but what the hey! The DailyShoot assignment for Sunday, January, 9 was to have shadows. I took this picture in Bricktown using my school's iPod Touch 4. I imported the photo into the SketchMee app and had fun making it into a pencil sketch, which shows off the patterns and shadows. The side door of Tapwerks is covered in bumper stickers for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.

My family's favorite mugs for tea and hot chocolate.

Fire Escape in Bricktown 7:365:2011

Looking up at a fire escape in Bricktown.
Taken with iPod Touch 4 on the way to dinner at Coach's.

Coach's in Bricktown 5:365:2011

Coach's in Bricktown, Oklahoma City. One of my favorite places.
Their California Club Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries is always my first choice!

Water with Lemon 5:365:2011

Water with lemon. I love this lighting at Coach's in Bricktown.

Rough Day for Junie B. 4:365:2011

Third graders were a little rough with Junie B. Jones today. I got her straightened out, though.

Roses 3:365:2011

My husband sent me roses because it's my first day back to school in 2011. Lovely. Lovely man, too.

Crochet Sampler

I crocheted this sampler scarf for myself at first, then gave it to my mother at Christmas.  She loves it.
